The Latvian mineral resources used presently and potentially in the future consist of Earth surface sediments, rocks and minerals, liquid minerals found in bedrock, heat, and geological structures. The following environmental problems are related to the utilisation of mineral resources: inefficient use of natural resources, landscape degradation, and depletion of biodiversity. These problems are included in the
National Environmental Policy Plan for Latvia as priority environmental problems.
