In Latvia, the main causes of risk are transportation of dangerous substances, deaths because of accidents, as well as risk to human health due to environmental pollution.
The existing legislation does not determine the procedure for risk assessment and the threshold criteria in order to decide for which facilities risk assessment has to be carried out. The assessment criteria and the methods to be applied are not adopted either.
