The surface water and groundwater resources in Latvia are sufficient to meet the requirements of the population for water. In spite of that, the economy and rational use of water will be a pressing environmental problem, since sustainable use of natural resources is one of the priority problems included in the National Environmental Policy Plan of Latvia.
