The most important mineral resources in Latvia are the natural building materials and their products (limestone, dolomite, gypsum, clay, sand, etc.) as well as peat, sapropel, groundwater for drinking water purposes and curative mineral waters. The demand of the Latvian national economy for raw materials in the production of building materials are sufficiently met.
The prospective geological resources are oil, geological structures for underground gas storage, heat energy, diamonds, magnetite iron-ore as well as industrial mineral water with a high content of bromine. However, this group of resources still requires the assessment of the economic efficiency of their extraction.
