The Latvian geological resources consist of the Earth crust sediments, rocks and minerals potentially used presently and in the future, as well as of liquid useful minerals found in rocks, heat and geological structures. The following environmental problems related to the utilisation of mineral resources are mentioned in the National Environmental Policy Plan of Latvia: non-sustainable use of natural resources, landscape degradation and reduction of biodiversity.
