In comparison with other rivers, the greatest loads from transboundary pollution in 2000 were to the Venta basin. The total nitrogen discharge from Lithuania was 90% of the total discharge to the sea.

The total phosphorus discharge to the Venta River from Lithuania was 90 t, which is identical to the total phosphorus discharge to the sea.

Nutrient concentrations

In recent years, the total phosphorus concentration in the Venta has decreased, from 3.14 mg/l in 1995 to 2.07 mg/l in 2000.

In comparison to the nitrogen concentration, the phosphorus concentration in the Venta has slightly increased, from 0.044 mg/l in 1993 to 0.058 mg/l in 2000.
