Water consumption by economic sectors

Water consumption has decreased since the beginning of the 1990's. A large drop in water consumption occurred in 1993 in industrial and agricultural sectors. The water consumption in 2000 among sectors was (as a percentage of the level in 1991): municipal use - 38%, industry - 32%, agriculture - 30%. The drop in water consumption can be explained by a fall in industrial production, as well as by implementation of water consumption accounting which led to water-saving practices in industry and especially in households.
