Actions for improvement of drinking water quality
The national investment programme Water Supply and
Sewage Treatment in Latvian Small Towns (800+), and the large
investment projects in Rīga, Liepāja and Daugavpils, have
contributed to improving water quality. Water supply in Daugavpils
changed at the beginning of 2001 from a surface water source to
total ground water supply. After the water management project in
Liepāja finished, microbiological pollution was not recorded in
any samples in 2000.
