The contribution of tourism export to the National GDP of
Latvia is only 1.8%, and employment in the sector is only 0.34% of
the total.
In recent years, the balance of export and import of income
from tourism travel has been negative. In 2000, export of incomes
in tourism were about two times more than import of incomes, i.e.
persons travelling abroad from Latvia spent more money than
visitors coming to Latvia.
In the tourism accommodation subsector, the relative
contribution of hotels, guest houses and motels have grown, with a
decrease in the proportion of camping and similar accommodations,
and a less significant decrease from resort hotels, sanatoriums
and rest homes.
