The climate is affected by Atlantic air masses, but inland the climate becomes more Continental. The mean precipitation is 500-800 mm yearly. The vegetation period with an air temperature over +5oC begins about 15 April and lasts 180-200 days. The mean air temperature in July is about +17oC. The year 2000 was the second warmest (the warmest was 1989) recorded in Latvia this century, with a mean temperature of +7.6oC. The long-term mean temperature in Latvia is +5.6oC.
