| The increase in temperature in Latvia
has occurred more rapidly during the second half of the century.
The temperatures increased in the first half of the century by 0.2°C,
compared to 0.5°C for the entire century. The air temperature in
Rīga has increased by about 1°C.
In 2000, the mean air temperature in Latvia (+7.6°C) was the
second highest (the highest was recorded in 1989) ever recorded.
The increase in temperature mainly affects winter temperatures
- winters become warmer. Comparing the changes in day and night
temperatures, the night temperatures are becoming higher, causing
less difference between minimal and maximum temperatures.
