One of the climate changes is an increase in the sea level, which will increase shore erosion. During the past century, the sea level globally has risen on average by 15-20 cm, of which 2-5 cm is due to melting of glaciers. A further 2-7 cm is due to expansion of ocean water, since an increase in ocean water temperature causes an increase in water volume. The water level in the Baltic Sea at the Daugavgrīva Observation Station has risen during the past 100 years by 22 cm.
