National monitoring and control are required to ensure safe use of
sources of ionizing radiation, and to protect human health and the
environment from harmful impact. At the same time, efforts should
be made to obtain the maximum positive effect from the use of
these sources. The Radiation Safety Centre of the Ministry of
Environmental Protection and Regional Development serves to fulfil
these tasks.
To achieve the above, development of the appropriate
legislation, implementation of a quality control system, and
training of workers (including publishing of recommendations, and
organization of international and national courses) are required.
Radiation sources, their users and work with the sources, must be
licensed. The sources are inspected, and radiation dose and
pollution levels are measured.
