In 1999, the Co-ordination Centre for Administration and Information Regarding Accident Incidents was created within MEPRD, which improved the action of various organizations in accident events.

About ¾ of the accident incidents reported to the centre are associated with marine and terrestrial oil and oil product spills, and ¼ are caused by chemical substances and hazardous waste that has been abandoned without supervision, and by damaged sewerage systems. In this Chapter, information on marine and terrestrial oil and oil product spills is analyzed.
